What do you do in your current role?

I am a Systems Engineer supporting the Onboard Network Systems (ONS) for a leading aircraft manufacturer. We’re introducing new technology that provides Electronic Flight Bag application data (en route maps, flight plan data, weather data, takeoff and landing calculations) on the pilot’s forward display. This technology will keep pilots more informed and support safer decision making en route.

Why did you choose this career path?

I always knew I wanted to be an engineer, even before I fully understood what an engineer was! Math and science were two of my favorite subjects, and I always loved building things. Early on, I had teacher mentors that nurtured these passions and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. It was in high school that one of my mentors helped me direct that passion towards engineering.

How has your career been fulfilling and why?

My profession has taken me around the world and led me to work on many different systems, from satellites that orbit our earth to the hardware that ensures planes fly safely. Looking up and knowing I played a part in improving people’s lives and safety is very fulfilling.

Throughout my career, I have had amazing mentors. They have guided me through the rough times and celebrated my successes.

I became involved with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) to mentor future engineers. I have mentored amazing young women. I discovered mentoring is truly rewarding, and connecting and working with new communities has been very motivating. I have made lasting friendships all over the country and become inspired by the stories of other women. This community empowers me to be the best that I can be and enables me to give that back so we can all realize our full potential.

Why SeaTec?

When I was looking at joining the SeaTec family, a former coworker told me what he loves most about working at SeaTec is the strong emphasis on servant leadership. Every day at SeaTec, I see this principle repeatedly demonstrated in how we interact with each other, our customers, and our communities. SeaTec has empowered me to continue to grow my career, pursue my passions, and give back to my community.
